TAMPA — The name of the woman who died this week when her car crashed into a New Tampa pond was released by police on Friday.

Nicole Allen, 38, died Wednesday when her car veered off the K Bar Ranch Parkway and into a pond near Laurel Vista Way in the K Bar Ranch community, according to Tampa police and Tampa Fire Rescue officials.

Officers rescued a 12-year-old girl who was riding in the car. But officers and firefighters were not able to free Allen because the car continued to sink into the pond, according to police.

She was found dead inside the vehicle after it was pulled from the pond.

Tampa police did not release the name of the girl or her relationship to Allen.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation on Friday.
