WIMAUMA — A 31-year-old Ruskin pedestrian was killed by a pick-up truck driver while walking along U.S. 301 early Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident took place about 12:11 a.m. on U.S. 301 north of Brody Boulevard, south of Sun City Center Boulevard.
The pedestrian was “in or across” an unlit portion of U.S. 301, according to the Highway Patrol. A 71-year-old Riverview man was driving a pickup north on U.S. 301 when troopers say the pedestrian “entered the path” of the truck.
The driver hit the 31-year-old man, who was fatally injured and died at the crash scene, the Highway Patrol said. The driver was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
Troopers did not release any other information about the crash. The Highway Patrol did not release the names of the two because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
