Firefighters battled a blaze in the Westshore Yacht Club neighborhood Friday afternoon.

Tampa Fire Rescue crews responded to a 2-story residence located in the 5800 block of Yeats Manor Drive around 2 p.m., officials said.

Firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames upon arrival and determined the source was a garage, and that the fire extended to the second floor of the garage, Tampa Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post.

A resident was in the unit at the time and was alerted of the fire by a neighbor and was able to escape, according to Fire Rescue.

Fire crews entered the building, but had to evacuate and begin fighting the fire “defensively” with two ladder trucks, officials said.

No injuries have been reported.
