Driver, 19, dies after Tampa crash

The man was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control, crossed the median and collided with another vehicle, police said Monday.

TAMPA — A 19-year-old man has died of injuries sustained in a collision last week, according to the Tampa Police Department.

The man was driving a Nissan Altima at a high rate of speed when he lost control, went across the median in the area of Cross Creek Boulevard and Grande Isle Drive and crashed into a Toyota RAV-4 on Thursday around 6:42 p.m., the agency said in a news release Monday afternoon.

The Nissan driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where he died at 4:46 p.m. Friday, police said Monday. The Toyota driver had minor injuries.

Police did not provide the names of those involved in the crash or the age of the other driver.

The crash still is under investigation, the release said.
