A motorcyclist is dead after colliding with a compact SUV in Tampa Wednesday, according to police.

The crash took place in the area of McKinley Drive and East Bougainvillea Avenue around 4:46 p.m., the Tampa Police Department said, closing the intersection.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, died as a result of his injuries, police said in a Wednesday evening news release.

The SUV driver, who was not injured, stayed at the crash scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to the release.

The Police Department did not identify either driver. The release said the motorcyclist’s name was being withheld until his next of kin can be notified.

The roads reopened to traffic shortly after 8 p.m., according to the police.
