It looks like a Seminole Heights restaurant and bar that’s been around for 12 years has shut down.

Tampa’s Mermaid Tavern closed this week, according to its Facebook page. The business updated its social media on Thursday saying it is permanently closed. Google also lists it as closed. Its website no longer works as well.

Mermaid Tavern did not immediately respond to an email asking for comment. Calls to Mermaid Tavern’s phone line would not go through.

The restaurant east of Interstate 275 on Nebraska Avenue came under scrutiny in the Tampa Bay Times’ “Farm to Fable” investigation in 2016 for misrepresenting products on its menu.

The bar owners were also outspoken against masks during the height of the pandemic and have hosted events for conservative nonprofit Moms for Freedom that advocates against vaccines.
