TAMPA — The Hillsborough transit agency is offering free rides Wednesday, Veterans Day, to those who have served in the nation’s armed forces.
Riders will be asked to show a valid military or veterans identification card when boarding any Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority bus to qualify for a free ride.
One-way fare for a bus ride is $2.
"This is just a small way to honor our veterans and to say ‘thank you’ to our military servicemen and women,” said Ruthie Reyes Burckard, interim chief executive of the authority, said in a news release. “We proudly recognize the veterans within HART who have served across various branches of the armed forces and who work diligently to execute the agency’s mission.”
The authority noted that 10 percent of its work force are military veterans, about 100 people.
Buses will run on a regular Wednesday service schedule for Veterans Day and the TECO Line Streetcar system will operate on a Wednesday service schedule from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
