TAMPA — A short stretch of the TECO Line Streetcar route will be closed beginning today while contractors replace ties and tracks.

But for those unable to make the short walk, vans will be available to shuttle passengers.

The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority announced that a 500-foot section of track between the York Street Station (#6) and Cumberland Avenue Station (#7) will close starting today until March 12.

Riders can walk along the sidewalk on the eastside of Channelside Drive between the stations, which agency officials estimate is a three to five minute stroll, according to a news release.

Paratransit customers needing assistance will have access to a van shuttle.

The repair work is part of a phased replacement of ties and track along the agency’s 2.7 mile line linking downtown with Ybor City.

The streetcar’s ridership has surged since its fares were eliminated in 2018.
