BROOKSVILLE — Flooding on Wednesday led the Hernando County Department of Public Works to close WPA Road just south of its intersection with Mondon Hill Road.
More than a foot of water is covering part of the road, east of downtown Brooksville, according to a release from the public works department. The area, near the northern and eastern edges of Bystre Lake, has experienced some flooding since at least Monday, when a reader shared photos showing water covering parts of nearby Preston Road, as well as lawns and fields.
On Friday, flooding caused the closure of Rackley Road, south of Brooksville, near its intersection with Saturn Road. On Tuesday, the public works department closed Sudan Drive and Meridian Street, two small, uninhabited roads near the Withlacoochee River, due to flooding. All those roads remained closed Wednesday.
