TAMPA — The left lane of northbound Interstate 275 between Lois Avenue and Himes Avenue has been closed for emergency asphalt repair, Florida Department of Transportation officials said.

Officials said drivers should expect significant delays. FDOT Spokesman John McShaffrey said the lane is expected to reopen early this afternoon, though an exact time is uncertain.

McShaffrey said inspectors noticed that the road had a large pothole, and the pavement around it was breaking up. The asphalt is temporary due to the ongoing construction project in the area, but McShaffrey said the pavement should have lasted longer. The cause of the damage is undetermined.
