A Florida Highway Patrol trooper arrested two people in Tampa on charges of driving under the influence and in the wrong direction in separate incidents Saturday evening and early Sunday morning.
Tommy Lorenzo Lane, 39, of Tampa, was pulled over by the trooper after he saw Lane driving westbound just east of 16th Street on the one-way, eastbound 6th Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, according to the FHP. After a field sobriety exercise, Lane was transported to Orient Road Jail, where he refused to provide a breath sample, authorities said.
FHP said the same trooper responded to a crash at 7th Avenue east of 27th Street around 2:20 a.m. Sunday. There, a driver was traveling westbound on 7th Avenue when he drove into the other lane, hitting another vehicle head-on and overturning his car.
The wrong-way driver, Michael Ivey Jr., 28, of Wimauma, was arrested and provided a breath sample of 0.177, according to the FHP. Andre Hoston, 32, and Shelonda Hoston, 34, who were in the other car, suffered minor injuries and were transported to Tampa General Hospital.
In addition to being cited for driving under the influence and in the wrong direction, Ivey was arrested on a count of driving with a suspended license, authorities said.
