The 10th annual Soggy Doggy party took place Saturday and Sunday at the Highland Family Aquatic Center in Largo. Dogs of all sizes were permitted to swim, but their owners were not. Mark Abdo of the Largo Recreation and Parks Department reluctantly started the event 10 years ago, but has grown to like it.
"It's my favorite event all year," Abdo said. Other seasonal pools in the area host similar events. The Largo event drew nearly 250 dogs Saturday and 100 on Sunday.
In downtown Tampa on Sunday, the Fall Family Field Day was sponsored by Jewish Family Services at Pepin Stadium on the University of Tampa's campus. Each family was asked to pay $36 and bring one nonperishable food item with them. All proceeds of the field day went to supporting the Tampa Jewish Family Services Community Food Bank that serves more than 5,500 people annually.
