A tropical depression swirling in the Bay of Campeche was expected to move over the Yucatan Peninsula in coming days and would probably stay well away from Tampa Bay, Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez said.

The National Hurricane Center reported in an update that as of 8 a.m. Wednesday, Tropical Depression Nine had wind speeds around 35 miles per hour. Marquez said it could become a tropical storm in the next couple of days, but was expected to weaken when it hits land.

"Between today and tomorrow, it's going to move east and over the Yucatan," she said.

The weather here was expected to be cool and clear in the next few days. A cold front should drop nighttime temperatures in north Pasco and Hernando to the 50s, to the 60s in Tampa and St. Petersburg.

"It will also be a little bit breezy the next few days," Marquez said, with high daytime temperatures in the low to mid 80s.
