TERRA CEIA — A waterspout overtook a U.S. Postal Service tractor-trailer as it approached the Sunshine Skyway on Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

While driver Randall J. Leaver, 56, of Wesley Chapel emerged uninjured, the truck sustained significant damage.

Leaver had been driving north on I-275 about 9:45 a.m. when the tornado struck, according to the FHP. As the funnel cloud swept across the roadway, it lifted the truck and turned it onto its side. The truck was then lifted again and returned to its upright position.

The spout also damaged a nearby construction site and overturned a small boat, but no one reported injuries.
