Council destroys banksy mural

Authorities in southern England were embarrassed but defensive Thursday after telling workers to destroy a mural they later realized was created by the internationally famous graffiti artist Banksy. Banksy's often satirical works have fetched up to $1.8 million at auction. The latest mural, which featured pigeons carrying anti-immigration banners, appeared at Clacton-on-Sea, the site of a special election next week.

memorial earns key approval

The long-delayed effort to build a memorial honoring President Dwight D. Eisenhower near the National Mall has won a key approval, despite ongoing objections to architect Frank Gehry's design. The federal agency that oversees planning for the nation's capital approved the preliminary building plans for the memorial project Thursday. The National Capital Planning Commission debated the design and voted 10-1 to approve the concept.

Ohio woman sues in sperm mistake

An Ohio woman has sued a Chicago-area sperm bank after she became pregnant with sperm donated by a black man instead of a white man as she and her partner had intended. Jennifer Cramblett, 36, is seeking damages and wants to ensure the sperm bank doesn't make a similar mistake again.
