And now for some good news. It’s only 45 days until Election Day, so yes, this too shall pass. Ballots are already in the mail for military voters and Floridians who are overseas. Hillsborough begins sending out mail ballots on Thursday; Pinellas, in 10 days.
Remember the Iowa Caucuses? Neither do we. Believe it or not, they happened in 2020, a pre-pandemic lifetime ago. But we’re near the end now. Soon, no matter whether you’re a red-meat Republican, a true-blue Democrat or a purple twixt-and-tweener, you will have your chance to rise above the noise, the tweets and the cable news blather and make your own voice heard — by voting. So wait for that ballot and weigh your options carefully — of course, after thoughtfully perusing the Times Editorial Board recommendations (coming soon!). Make your choices and feel good about yourself and discharging your civic duty.
Florida stands a good chance of playing a pivotal role yet again, which means your vote could have outsized influence. That’s a good feeling, but so is the thought that this seemingly infinite election cycle will actually end.
