Et tu, Christie?

Chris Christie is the Brutus that DeSantis needs to beat Trump | Column, June 7

I think that Chris Christie is definitely the Brutus, the bulldozer and, depending on your political persuasion, the truth teller or the spoiler. While the other Republican candidates are tiptoeing and going around former President Donald Trump, Christie sounds like he’s going to go right through him. Not only did I enjoy the column, I learned a new word, “snollygoster.”

Keep writing columns

Chris Christie is the Brutus that DeSantis needs to beat Trump | Column, June 7

This column is insightful political commentary written with prose that borders on poetry. Mac Stipanovich is a true treasure with insights and prose that the nationally syndicated columnists can only dream of achieving. I’m looking forward to future assessments by this local treasure.

Not with my money

Florida confirms it was behind California migrant flights | June 7

I was livid when I saw that taxpayers in Florida are funding transportation of migrants from Texas to other states. Who decided this was a good use of our taxpayers’ money? There are so many more needs in our state.

Personal experience

Florida is flooded with bad insurance news | Letter, June 6

From public disclosure forms, it appears Gov. Ron DeSantis has little personal experience with such mundane things as homeowner’s insurance, flood insurance, roof replacements, utility bills or other costs incurred by many taxpayers. According to his bio, he has spent much of his adult life in subsidized housing. From college dorms to the military and now state-funded living quarters, making mortgage payments has eluded him. Is it any wonder he seems to care little about these trivial things that, as president, he wouldn’t experience?

Over the rainbow

LGBTQ+ advocate shares her hopes, concerns at Suncoast Tiger Bay Club | June 8

I saw a really nice rainbow the other day. It made me think of how the diversity of colors made the sky look a lot better. Then I remembered the rainbow is the symbol of the LGBTQ+ community and I thought, “How appropriate!” Their diversity adds to our melting pot makes America better. Then I wondered if Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Republicans were going to claim Mother Nature is being “woke.”
