Largo candidate responses

Editor's note: The following Largo City Commission candidates sent responses to the Tampa Bay Times editorial board's recommendation of their opponents in the Nov. 4 election. The Times recommended Michael Smith for Seat 1 and Harriet Crozier for Seat 5.

Bronson Oudshoff | Seat 1

I look forward to serving the citizens of Largo with strong values, principles and integrity. I will work to stabilize taxes and prioritize our spending to ensure adequate funding for our police and firefighters. The current commission plans on collecting 5 percent more in tax revenue this year and for the next five years. This generated an additional $800,000 in revenue for fiscal 2015, but only added one additional police officer in our budget. This does not even keep up with the pace of annexation. They didn't attend to our deficit of personnel in our fire department and there is no current plan to address either of these issues.

I also am against the Greenlight Pinellas plan, which is a tax increase on our residents. The residents of Largo cannot continue to weather the increasing tax burden imposed on them by our local government. We can grow revenue in Largo by making our city more business friendly. If we make our city more desirable to businesses, that will create jobs and opportunities for our citizens.

I offer the strong leadership necessary to get our city back on track. Cast your vote for Bronson "O" for Largo City Commission Seat 1.

Donna Holck | Seat 5

My name is Donna Holck and I am running for Largo City Commission Seat 5. My platform is based on what we call "Donna's 4 P's" — Prioritize the budget, Protect public safety, Preserve city programs and I Pledge to only serve two terms.

Yes, I am new to the political arena; I have made no secret about that. But I also am a citizen of Largo that has decided to become proactive. I know I can give a new perspective to the commission as a citizen rather than as a polished politician who has been in office for 20+ years. Sometimes you need people that are outside the box looking in for people to look at things from a different perspective.

This commission has continually focused on making Largo beautiful, which they have. It is now time to re-prioritize the budget to reflect keeping the city safe.

I want to be a voice for the citizens of Largo. Communication is the key to any relationship and I want a relationship with the citizens of Largo. I want to be their voice. If you have any questions please visit my website, donnaforlargo.com.
