Pasco letters: Mariano's persistence on SunWest is appreciated

Support for park is appreciated

I refute C.T. Bowen's May 15 column about the new SunWest park in Hudson. Where he sees petulance in Commissioner Jack Mariano's support of SunWest, I see persistence, a quality needed when dealing with government. Perhaps the amount of money is too many public dollars and needs to be recalculated, and yet, SunWest Park is a valuable asset to both residents and tourists and should be opened with adequate facilities soon.

I trust Commissioner Mariano because of another matter in my community that he brought to a good resolution for all parties involved. Commissioner Mariano works tirelessly to make things better for the citizens of Pasco County. I wish I could say the same for Commissioners Ted Schrader and Kathryn Starkey.

Residents take lead on recycling

We enjoyed C.T. Bowen's May 22 column on waste management and recycling in Pasco.

Did you know that RV parks and the like are not required to offer recycling to their tenants if they have commercial container service? Yes! Most snowbirds are familiar with recycling and would be more than happy to participate with a little cooperation from the haulers and landowners.

We, the homeowners of Tropical Acre Estates (Zephyrhills) have taken it upon ourselves to initiate cardboard/paper recycling. We garner a small fee monthly from the only contractor we could find on what we are able to recycle. A handful of residents also recycle plastic and glass and take it to our recycling center three to four times a month.

We sure are frustrated about this mess!

Charter issues detailed on site

In the interest of providing more information for Pasco citizens concerning the Charter Advisory Committee, a new website, pascocharter.com, is now on the Web.

The website has pages for reference, advisory committee meeting minutes, newspaper articles, sample charters and an opinion section.

Pascocharter.com is devoted to presenting information about the current Charter Advisory Committee as it deliberates possible changes to the way Pasco County government operates in serving the citizens.

It is hoped that this source will be able to provide more information and be a "go to" site for those who want to be up to date on charter government issues.

Many helped in book sale success

The Friends of the Land O'Lakes Library, 2818 Collier Parkway, would like to thank the community members who came to our book sale April 30 to May 2.

We also want to thank the Pasco section of the Tampa Bay Times (especially Arleen Spenceley) and other publications for placing our announcements. Finally, we want to thank our members who volunteered their time to make this sale a success. Thank you, everyone.
