A Florida Highway Patrol state trooper was arrested Saturday for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies confronted Riley Marcus Schwarz, 23, after the girl's parents found a journal detailing their relationship. The journal indicated that Schwarz had been involved with the girl since September 2018, when she was 14.

Schwarz admitted to the relationship and surrendered himself to jail.

He told deputies he had sex with the girl on six to eight occasions in her home and once in his car, according to sheriff's deputies. It was not clear if he was on duty at the time.

Schwarz has been charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery involving sexual activity with a victim 12 to15 years of age, according to deputies.

A spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol said Schwarz had been fired. He held the job for less than two years.

"The alleged actions are reprehensible, and the department continues to cooperate fully with the investigation," Captain Thomas E. Pikul said in an email to the Tampa Bay Times.
