Hometown Pasco for July 26

 
One of Zephyrhill’s own, Lt. Col. Nils “Eric” Hallberg Jr., recently was promoted to colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Hallberg is the son of Nils E. Sr. and Margaret Hallberg of Zephyrhills. He and his wife, Victoria, have three children: Ethan, Ella and Aidan. Hallberg graduated from Zephyrhills High School in 1993 and joined the Air Force the following year as a firefighter. After graduating from officers training in 1998 and pilot training the following year, Col. Hallberg is now a command pilot with more than 3,400 hours and more than 100 combat missions. He most recently served as the branch head of offensive plans/nuclear operations at Deployable Air Command and Control Centre at Poggio Renatico Air Base in Italy. At the end of June, he was to report to Combined Air Operations Centre at the Torrejón Air Force Base in Spain, where he has been selected to be the training and exercise Division head, and Senior U.S. Military Representative. Col. Hallberg has received many awards, such as the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal, among others.
