If your fireworks show fizzled, here’s some sparkle to enjoy (w/video)

The Fourth of July didn’t exactly sparkle over Tampa Bay’s biggest cities. Fireworks shows in St. Petersburg and Tampa fizzled, leaving irked crowds and sponsors scrambling on Thursday to explain themselves.

In St. Petersburg, people waited hours on the waterfront for a 9:15 p.m. show before the city announced at 9:45 p.m. that it was canceled due to technical difficulties. City officials blamed the vendor and said they wouldn’t pay the bill.

Across the bay, stormy weather prompted Tampa’s fireworks display to start early, the second straight year that the national anniversary celebration proved somewhat of a dud. - Charlie Frago, Tampa Bay Times
