North Pinellas Woman's Club wins statewide award

The General Federation of Women's Club North Pinellas Woman's Club recently received the Lois B. Perkins Award as the 2018 Outstanding Club of the Year at the statewide convention in Orlando. The award is granted annually to the club with the best overall record in enhancing its community through service projects. This is the seventh year the North Pinellas Woman's Club has received the award. The club has more than 160 members and volunteered more than 24,000 hours in 2018. It has donated more than $90,000 in community grants, scholarships, cash and in-kind donations.

Gulfport Rehabilitation Center adds cafe

The Gulfport Rehabilitation Center recently added a cafe to its library. The Treasure Chest Cafe will be run by volunteers and will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For information on volunteering call (727) 344-8525.

Girls, Inc. of Pinellas receives $100K grant

Girls, Inc. of Pinellas received a $100,000 grant from the Girls Inc. national organization. The local group plans to double the number of girls benefiting from its educational programs in the next two years. Girls Inc. of Pinellas was founded in 1961, offering after-school programming for girls ages 5-18. It currently serves about 300 girls and is partnering with Pinellas County Schools 21st Century Learning Centers and PACE Center for Girls. Girls Inc. of Pinellas will use the grant funding to hire new program facilitators that will provide programming at PACE Center for Girls and at the 10 learning centers.
