Tarpon Springs plans Martin Luther King Day festivities

A breakfast, parade and festival are among the events scheduled

TARPON SPRINGS — Residents are invited to a breakfast, parade and festival honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 19.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Event and Scholarship Foundation is hosting the 24th annual event to honor the birthday of the civil rights leader. The breakfast starts at 8 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Tarpon Springs at 501 E Tarpon Ave. The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. with the float lineup beginning an hour prior on the corner of Levis Avenue and Tarpon Avenue next to Vinson Funeral Home at 456 E Tarpon Ave.

Performers in the parade include the Mighty Marching Lions Community All-Star Band from Tampa and marching bands from Tarpon Springs High and Gibbs High.

A festival with music, food and drinks will follow the parade at Dorsett Park, 500 E Harrison St. Organizers will award the best float.
