Rain moves Bucs practice inside ... to Tropicana Field

Published Aug. 13, 2015

With heavy rains falling at One Buc Place, a turf game in two days and the Rays conveniently out of town, the Bucs will finish their final practice before Saturday's preseason opener by moving over to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.

The Bucs initially had their closed afternoon practice delayed 15 minutes, and were able to get in about 25 minutes of drills before the lightning alarm went off, sending players back inside for meetings. After about 40 minutes of waiting, the team opted to move practice to Thursday evening at the Trop -- they practiced there in November under similar circumstances.

Injury updates -- the Bucs were again without safety Chris Conte, who has not practiced since the first day of camp due to a hamstring injury, and defensive end T.J. Fatinikun missed a third straight day with an undisclosed injury. Guard Logan Mankins (illness) and cornerback Sterling Moore (undisclosed) returned to practice after being out Wednesday.

The Bucs had neither of their top rookies working with the first-string offensive line, with Kevin Pamphile at left tackle and Garrett Gilkey at right guard. That put second-round picks Donovan Smith and Ali Marpet with the second line -- Gilkey also doubled up as the second-string center, as the Bucs have only two healthy centers with Josh Allen out with an ankle injury.
