Rays manager Kevin Cash unveiled his lineup for Monday's opener, and said it's a setup he plans to use for most games against righthanded pitchers:
Jaso DH,
Souza RF,
Cabrera SS,
Longoria 3b,
Loney 1b,
Jennings LF,
Forsythe 2b,
Rivera c,
Kiermaier cf,
Archer p
Cash said they like the appeal of Jaso's on-base percentage at the top, that Souza should benefit from the hitters behind him in the order, that Longoria will be a stable fourth fourth and they like the idea of Kiermaier at the bottom to flip the lineup over. A key, though, will be the performance of Desmond Jennings in the No. 6 slot.
Cash said against lefty pitchers he projects OF Brandon Guyer to bat leadoff, with Logan Forsythe as the DH and Tim Beckham starting at 2B. That would allow the Rays to have only one lefty hitter in the lineup, 1B James Loney.
