End of an Era: Brocante Closing

Vintage aficionados, pickers and salvagers will have to look for new digs to buy and sell their wares after December, when St. Petersburg's Brocante Vintage Market officially closes. Owners Sean and Celesta Carter announced on social media last week that the December market will be their last. Even though the market is thriving financially, the Carters said, they have decided to end it for personal reasons. "We just want to take a step back," said Celesta Carter. "We want to focus on our home, travel and the other interests and hobbies in our lives." Real estate investor Phil Farley recently bought the warehouse that houses Brocante. He plans to create a mixed-use space that would include artists' studios and retail. The Carters said this wasn't part of their decision to close, but was serendipitous because they were ready to move on.

Fun Tradition: VooDood Challenge Art Show

For the past six years, Tampa artist Teresa Crout has a cool challenge in which she creates VooDoods — a voodoo-inspired doll made of polymer clay — in a two-month period and lets people name them on social media. She made 49 this year, and the theme is song lyrics. Everyone from the Rolling Stones to local band Have Gun, Will Travel is represented. To celebrate, she'll have a wrap party Friday at the Bricks, where all of the pieces will be available for sale, along with her paintings. It all comes full circle with a performance from the Burke Brothers of Have Gun, Will Travel. Free. 7-10 p.m. 1327 E Seventh Ave., Tampa.
