This week's Tampa Bay shopping picks: Gifts for Mother's Day, Dinosaur World deal at Goodwill

GIFT IDEA: Give art

Gentle reminder: Mother's Day is next weekend. Instead of grabbing a last-minute bouquet of flowers, why not consider a more permanent gift? A painting of flowers by Sally Evans is on display in the "Old Florida Meets New Florida" exhibit at Syd Entel Galleries. Evans' brightly colored acrylics and pastels of flowers play nicely with her husband Tom Sadler's soft-edged, almost Impressionist oil paintings of Florida's landscape. Either artist's work would make a lovely Mother's Day gift. There may be another item in the gallery that better fits the bill, or you could just bring Mom to enjoy the show. It closes on Saturday, with a reception from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Free. 247 Main St., Safety Harbor. sydentelgalleries.com.

SKIP AND A JUMP: Sunny Central Avenue Shop Hop

Another way to get a jump on Mother's Day is the Sunny Central Avenue Shop Hop in St. Petersburg this weekend. The event really shows how many businesses have recently opened downtown, and they're all offering special deals. From Fifth to 26th streets, you can find that perfect gift for Mom. Try something handmade at the Florida CraftArt Members' Show, like Renee Davis' gorgeous pendant. Get some aromatherapy at Enchanted Apothecary. The Merchant has tons of St. Pete-centric items, and you can always count on Misred for fun clothing, accessories and gifts. Atlas Body and Home and Matter of Fact are new or new-ish, so check them out, and sip wine and nibble along the way. Get a card stamped at each shop and you could win a gift basket. Visit Shop Sunny Central's Facebook page for more information. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Free. 501 Central Ave.

GIVE AND GET: Dinosaur World passes

So you've been Kondo-ing your closet out and now it's time to pick a place to donate your hoard. Besides the satisfaction of lightening your load, Goodwill is offering a free child's ticket with paid adult admission to Dinosaur World when you drop off your goods at any donation site in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando or Polk counties. The offer is valid through May 31 and the coupon must be redeemed before Aug. 1. goodwill-suncoast.org.
