The Bucs have announced their inactives for today's season opener at the Falcons, and the list has six rookies, including three draft picks, who won't be dressing for today's game.
The rookies held out today are three draft picks -- S Ryan Smith, who's battling a hand injury; LB Devante Bond, who is sidelined by a hamstring injury; and OG Caleb Benenoch, who isn't among the seven offensive linemen dressing -- along with DE Channing Ward, DT DaVonte Lambert and OT Leonard Wester, who made the team as undrafted rookies. Ryan Griffin, the Bucs' third QB, is inactive, as he was in every game last season.
Four rookies will still make their Bucs debuts, in CB Vernon Hargreaves, DE Noah Spence, PK Roberto Aguayo and RB Peyton Barber, who was promoted to be the team's No. 3 running back. Other newcomers include DE Robert Ayers, WR Cecil Shorts, CB Brent Grimes, CB Josh Robinson, LB Daryl Smith and P Bryan Anger.
The Bucs have only three safeties dressed, in starters Chris Conte and Bradley McDougald and backup Keith Tandy, but Ryan Smith's injury explains why they had Robinson cross-training at safety this week as an emergency backup.
