The sports-centric organization Special Olympics has been bringing events and resources to communities worldwide for over 50 years. What is Special Olympics?

According to the organization’s website, Special Olympics is a global movement of people creating a new world of inclusion and community, where every person is accepted and welcome, regardless of ability or disability. Special Olympics, which was founded in 1968, aims to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, according to its mission statement.

Special Olympics Florida carries out this mission in the Sunshine State. Special Olympics Florida’s goal is to help people with intellectual disabilities participate as productive and respected members of society at large, by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through sports training and competition, according to their website.
