DEVELOPING: The Rays have two games to play on Saturday, the first of four split-squad dates of the spring.
One group will be at home against the Phillies (who won’t have Bryce Harper in their lineup) and the other heading up to Dunedin for their first meeting with the Blue Jays and new manager Charlie Montoyo, their longtime minor-league manager and big-league coach.
Most of the more recognizable and bigger name players are playing in Port Charlotte, with Tyler Glasnow on the mound and Matt Duffy, Tommy Pham. Joey Wendle. Avisail Garcia, Danial Robertson and Yandy Diaz in the lineup.
The squad heading north includes Willy Adames. Austin Meadows, Brandon Lowe, prospect Nate Lowe and Guillermo Heredia, Wilmer Font. who impressed last season until a season-ending lat strain in late June, is slated for his first appearance of the spring.
WDAE is planning to cover both games on radio, cutting back and forth March Madness style, as they’ll have Neil Solondz and Dave Wills in Dunedin and Andy Freed in Port Charlotte.
