ST. PETERSBURG - Rays officials took another look late Friday at the blue-lit Trop roof to see if some adjustments made it more viable for game play.
Team executives, coaches, manager Kevin Cash all gathered post-game to watch as outfielder Guillermo Heredia moved around the outfield to get different looks at the ball against the now-blue roof.
The premise is that by lighting the roof blue there will be greater contract with the white ball and it will be easier track.
Initial testing did not go well as outfielders Tommy Pham and Austin Meadows said it was harder to see the ball, so the staff was making adjustments to the color and brightness.
MLB has granted the Rays what amounts to preliminary approval to make the change whey they feel they have it correct, but may right of final approval. Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg said Thursday he expects it to be implemented sometime during the season.
