UPDATE, 6:15: The trip back to Tampa Bay turned out to be an unhappy homecoming for former Rays and now Rockies reliever Jake McGee who sprained his left knee pitching in Monday’s game and landed on the injured list. ... Rays manager Kevin Cash said he wanted to go as right-handed as possible as Freeland.

DEVELOPING: Off to a franchise-best matching 4-1 start, the Rays take on the Rockies again today in battle of two of the game’s top young lefties, their Blake Snell vs. Colorado’s Kyle Freeland.

Christian Arroyo, the former Hernando High standout acquired in December 2017 from the Giants, makes his first start after being called up Monday to replace injured Joey Wendle. Overall, the Rays have 8 righty hitters in the lineup, noting Freeland allows a .263 average and .735 OPS to right-handed hitters and .233 and .643 to lefties.
