UPDATE, 1:17: The Rays pitching plans for the weekend are to use an opener on Friday in Toronto, then bring back Blake Snell on Saturday and Morton on Sunday. ... But those could change depending on whether they play the third game of the series in Chicago. The forecast for Wednesday, per weather.com, is miserable, with 100 percent chance of rain and a high temperature of 40. As a result, the Rays and travel director Chris Westmoreland are looking at several contingencies if they can’t play Wednesday. One is staying over in Chicago, which will require finding rooms at other hotels (which hasn’t been easy in the city), and trying to play Thursday, when the forecast is only slightly better, with a 60 percent chance of rain and a high temperature of 58. Another is leaving for Toronto and coming back to Chicago later in the season on a mutual off-day. ... The Rays two Cuban players, Yandy Diaz and Guillermo Heredia, declined comments on the reported rejection of MLB’s plan to ease the process of getting signed by major-league teams.

DEVELOPING: The Rays take on the White Sox in another afternoon matinee today, looking to win a fourth straight series, extending their franchise best start.

Veteran Charlie Morton, who has been even better than expected thus far, will be on the mound for the Rays.

The White Sox are expected to announce Ervin Santana, the veteran right-hander who signed a minor-league deal, as their starter.

The Rays are 8-3, matching their 2010 team for the best 11-game start in franchise.
