If Lightning fans were stung by the development when Steve Yzerman stepped down as general manager two days before the start of training camp in September, today’s news that he will become GM of the Red Wings — just days after the Bolts’ shocking playoff exit — couldn’t have been any easier to accept.

Yet, the initial response from fans seems to be resignation, understanding and appreciation for the job Yzerman did building the Lightning into a perennial playoff team with one of the finest collections of talent in the NHL and a deep prospect pool, to boot.

Detroit, meanwhile, is over the moon about Stevie Y’s return to the franchise for whom he played for 22 seasons, served as captain and helped to three Stanley Cups.
