University of Tampa advances to Division II World Series

TAMPA -- The top-seeded University of Tampa advanced to the Division II World Series with a 6-3 11-inning win over No. 2 Delta State in the South Super Region on Saturday.

In the top of the 11th, Cole Perry led off for the Spartans (41-14) with a double to leftfield. Back-to-back-to-back walks by Mikey Navarette, Stephen Smith and Yorvis Torrealba scored Perry. A single by Wharton alum Drew Ehrhard scored Navarette and Smith.

Ehrhard finished 5-of-6 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Starter Mason Duke went 6 2/3 innings and allowed all three Delta State runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out five and walking one. James Reynolds got the final Delta State out in the 10th to get the win. Jacinto Arredondo got the save.

The Spartans will go for their fifth national title in the 19-year tenure of coach Joe Urso when the Series begins June 1 in Cary, N.C.
