Gators coach Dan Mullen said Monday that what his offensive line has been doing isn’t enough. It’s still not. Quarterback Kyle Trask’s three fumbles were the fault of poor blocking, as was the hit that knocked Trask out of the game for nine minutes in the second quarter.
Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown played like a future first-round pick. Yes, he tripped over himself on what would have been a touchdown, but he recovered two fumbles, forced one of those and was almost unblockable.
It’s easy to second-guess Florida faking a punt because Tommy Townsend’s rush was stuffed. But it’s comparable to the one the Gators ran in the opener. Against Miami, UF faked it on fourth and 3 from its own 28. Against Auburn, it was fourth and 3 from its own 34. One worked. One failed.
