Gold Glove CF Kevin Kiermaier has earned the right to take charge in the outfield. But it was a bit extraordinary to see him on the foul-line side of LF Corey Dickerson on a first-inning sac fly, and not surprising his momentum caused a wide throw to the plate.
RHP Jake Odorizzi, who grew up near St. Louis, was hoping some home cooking — or at least having 150 relatives and friends on hand — would produce a needed strong start, but he didn't make it out of the fourth. He did get his second big-league hit and third RBI.
LF Corey Dickerson continues to show signs of recovery at the plate, following up his 5-for-16 showing on the homestand with hits in his first four at-bats. That still doesn't offset his big dropoff since making the All-Star team, but it is promising for a strong finish.
