The Rays talk about making more contact and reducing strikeouts, but sometimes opposing pitchers are in charge. The Rays fanned 15 times, three apiece from Kevin Kiermaier, Brad Miller, Steven Souza Jr., Daniel Robertson.

Starting rookie SS Daniel Robertson over Tim Beckham was more newsworthy, but it was also interesting that Jesus Sucre was behind the plate instead of Derek Norris, who had plate-blocking and baserunnng issues Wednesday.

Matt Andriese wasn't dominating, but he was better than in his season-opening start vs. the Jays, allowing one run over six innings and making pitches when he needed to. That was good enough.
