Marc Topkin's takeaways from Wednesday's Rays-Blue Jays game

The Austin Pruitt experiment might be over, or at least put on pause. After allowing six runs over seven innings to Seattle on Friday, the rookie didn't get through the fourth Wednesday, giving up five runs on four homers. His ERA for past six starts: 5.29.

Manager Kevin Cash keeps saying CF Kevin Kiermaier can't single-handedly get the Rays turned around, but he sure is trying. Kiermaier homered twice Wednesday and has 10 hits in his first 21 at-bats since coming off the DL on Friday after a 61-game absence.

The Rays lost when Tommy Hunter allowed the go-ahead homer in the eighth, but it shouldn't be lost the way they came back from a 5-0 deficit vs. Toronto ace Marcus Stroman, especially as much as they had been struggling offensively. They've scored 21 runs in their past four games.
