CHICAGO — Rays 1B Logan Morrison insisted he wasn't disappointed to not be selected by MLB officials to participate in Monday's All-Star Home Run Derby despite ranking second in the majors with 24 homers. But he had a serious issue that Yankees C Gary Sanchez — with 13 homers at the time — was chosen ahead of him."Gary shouldn't be there. Gary's a great player, but he shouldn't be in the Home Run Derby," Morrison said."I remember when I had 14 home runs. That was a month and a half ago."Sanchez is on the AL All-Star team as the backup catcher, voted in by the players. Morrison was not elected or selected to the All-Star squad but is on the five-man ballot for the final spot, with voting continuing via mlb.com through Thursday. But Royals 3B Mike Moustakas is in a similar position and, with 23 homers, he was invited to be among the four AL players in the eight-player derby field, as was 1B Justin Bour of the host Marlins.Morrison suggested bias against playing for a small-market team, noting, as did several Rays mates, that Sanchez was a second Yankee, joining home run leader Aaron Judge ."Moustakas should be there," Morrison said. "I'm not disappointed. It's par for the course. I play for the Rays. I get it. They can't even get my picture right. When they put my name up there they put Corey ( Dickerson 's) picture up there … on MLB Network. When they put up the home run leaders they put Corey's swing on there, not mine."Morrison may have a point, as the MLB decision process, determined in consultation with the players' union, includes factors beyond current home run totals such as popularity, All-Star status, being a member of the host team and performance in previous seasons.Dickerson, thrilled to be voted in as the starting DH, said he, too, was hoping to get an invite for the derby. "Crickets," he said. "I think it would have been pretty cool. It's a big stage and it would be fun to do. … We're all just wondering how it works."The field also includes Miami's Giancarlo Stanton , Minnesota's Miguel Sano , Los Angeles Dodger Cody Bellinger and Colorado's Charlie Blackmon . Cash's All-Star call Manager Kevin Cash said he was "very excited, very honored and very appreciative" to be chosen an All-Star Game coach by AL/Cleveland manager and good buddy Terry Francona . Now he just has to be sure that it's a good idea going to Miami next week since he'll be on crutches and/or in a walking boot after breaking his left foot during a pregame run Sunday. "That's the plan," he said. "Now let's see if I can do a little bit more than hobble around." Francona and Cash poke fun at each other — with Francona usually getting the better of him publicly, anyway — but it's clear there is much respect, as Cash played for him in Boston and coached for him in Cleveland. "I know we joke around a lot, but I think I've been pretty clear how much respect I've got for him and that entire Indians staff," he said. "So to get an opportunity to go hang out with those guys … will be pretty special." Quote of the day "I'd get the commissioner calling me for pace of play, so I'm not going to go out there now."
