Good deeds

• Home runs by 3B Evan Longoria will once again benefit St. Petersburg's Pet Pal Animal Shelter. Longoria, the Rays, Ducky's Sports Lounge and Bright House Networks will each donate $100 per blast. Longoria and fiancée Jaime Edmondson, who have a rescue dog (Tatum, a 6-year-old Boerboel Mastiff), have been longtime supporters of the no-kill, nonprofit shelters. His 71 homers the past three years have generated $28,800. "Home runs the last three years have been a little more meaningful to Jaime and I knowing they are helping support our local nonprofit, no-kill shelter," said Longoria. "We are grateful that our partners continue to share that same enthusiasm."

• LHP Jake McGee will help kick off Saturday's Tampa Bay Walk Now for Autism Speaks event at the Trop, held to note Autism Awareness Month and Autism Speaks' Light It Up Blue campaign.

Shining moment

RHP Steve Geltz, who starts tonight, made history on Monday, the first pitcher to work more than one inning and strike out every batter he faced (four) on opening day since records were first available in 1914.
