Rays, Phillies to honor Clearwater 100th

Published March 13, 2015

Happy hundredth

The Rays will wear a patch in observance of the Clearwater centennial (1915-2015) for today's game against Philadelphia at Bright House Field. The Phillies will sport the same patch.

The Brown bomber

Plant High alumnus Corey Brown, a Rays nonroster invitee, continued his torrid spring Thursday with two more singles. In seven games, he's hitting .538 (7-for-13) with two doubles, a homer and a triple. "He rakes," manager Kevin Cash said. "He's hitting everything."

Miller time

RHP Jim Miller, set to pitch Sunday after being signed to a minor-league deal last week, graduated from North Fort Myers High, roughly 20 minutes south of Charlotte Sports Park. Four members of his 2000 Red Knights team played professionally, with two — Miller and fellow reliever Jon Huber — reaching the majors.

Number of the day

6 Two-out RBIs totaled Thursday by the Rays: Alexi Casilla's double in the eighth, followed by Logan Forsythe's two-run homer two batters later.
