1. Rays

Roger Mooney's takeaways from Sunday's Rays-Rangers game

Just when RHP Jake Odorizzi thought he was trending in the right direction after pitching out of the stretch during his previous start, he has another tough outing. He retired only 12 batters, which is never good, especially with LHP Blake Snell pitching tonight against the Orioles.

How big has RHP Tommy Hunter been this season? Really big. The Rays reliever retired all four batters he faced Sunday for his 12th consecutive scoreless outing. He also pitched a scoreless inning in Saturday's loss. That's what you need in front of your closer. Getting swept happens to every team, even the good ones. But it was the way the Rays were swept. They've talked all season about how their strong character leads to them being a resilient team. That put them in the playoff race, but it's being tested now.
