Bills cap rally with kicker's big bang
DETROIT — Bills kicker Dan Carpenter banged a 50-yard field goal attempt off the left upright in the third quarter.
His second chance was far truer.
Carpenter split the goal posts from 58 yards with 4 seconds left to cap Buffalo's comeback win over the Lions. The Bills trailed 14-0 in the first half.
"I hit it really good. It was one of those things I really like to not leave opportunities like that short," said Carpenter.
The Bills won in Kyle Orton's debut as starting quarterback in place of EJ Manuel. And their defense had six sacks to give coordinator Jim Schwartz a win in his return to Detroit; the Lions fired him as head coach after last season.
