TAMPA -- Newsome High graduate Bruce Anderson signed an undrafted rookie free agent contract with the Bucs on Saturday.

Anderson, a 5-foot-10, 210-pound running back who was a part of three FCS subdivision national championship teams at North Dakota State, showed his pass-catching abilities during his pro day at NDSU, and the Bucs are in need of a third-down pass catching back.

Anderson averaged 7.5 yards a carry this past season at North Dakota State, logging 924 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, while also posted 199 receiving yards and three touchdown catches.

As a junior, Anderson ran for 1,216 yards and 12 touchdowns and had an addition 156 yards and three touchdowns receiving.

Anderson was invited to the play in the Senior Bowl but was unable to play after a nagging hamstring injury prevented him from playing in the game. He didn’t receive an invite to the NFL Combine, but ran a 4.58 40 at his pro day and had 22 reps in the bench press.

Anderson, who gained valuable experience on special teams in college, could also compete for a special teams role.
