TAMPA — After waiving their most experienced cornerback, Vernon Hargreaves, the Bucs won’t totally have to rely on rookies in the secondary against the Saints Sunday.
Cornerback Carlton Davis, who missed the past two games with a hip injury, will play, coach Bruce Arians said Friday.
"I think he’ll be ready to go,'' Arians said. "It’s a big help. He’s our best corner and ... he looked real good today, so it will give us a good mix of all our guys.''
The Bucs still will rely heavily on rookie cornerbacks Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel-Dean, whose fourth-quarter interception led to the game-winning touchdown drive in Tampa Bay’s 30-27 win Sunday against the Cardinals. Cornerback M.J. Stewart has a knee sprain and is out Sunday.
Murphy-Bunting and Dean continued their 7 a.m. meetings with Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles this week and were joined by some other teammates.
"It’s like Todd said, ‘I had too many in my office. I didn’t have enough furniture,'' Arians said. "So he had to move down to the DB room this morning.''
The Bucs will also be thin again at outside linebacker. Carl Nassib and Anthony Nelson will not play again Sunday.
