TAMPA — Well, it’s (almost) official. Tom Brady is reported to end up in Tampa Bay after the former New England quarterback announced Tuesday that he will not return to the Patriots. And it didn’t take long for “Brady to Tampa” and “Bucs” to top the trending charts on Twitter, either.
Here’s what social media thought of the news.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter pointed out this isn’t the first time the six-time Super Bowl champion has had his eye on making history.
Speculation about where Jameis Winston would end up has been building since the offseason began in February.
Coach Bruce Arians has said previously he considers the 26-year-old quarterback “an unknown quantity." Winston passed for 5,109 yards with 33 touchdowns, 30 interceptions and 112 points scored off his turnovers last season’s performance.
On Monday, the Bucs edged Winston closer to the door by franchise tagging linebacker Shaquil Barrett, who led the NFL in sacks this past season with 19.5.
Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard even went so far as to create a Bucs version of Brady in the Madden 2020 edition.
And one sports gambler is getting quite the return on his initial $200 investment, making a return of more than $10,000 on 50-1 odds that Brady would sign with the Bucs. I guess we should have listened to this person all along.
And receiver Mike Evans is finally getting “the best ever.”
