TAMPA ― It wasn’t its first trip to Raymond James Stadium. But Lord Stanley’s Cup made a return visit Sunday prior to the Bucs game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Late in the first quarter, the Jumbotron showed the Stanley Cup in a suite surrounded by Lightning players Steven Stamkos, Alex Killorn, Nikita Kucherov, Victor Hedman, Pat Maroon and several others.
We Are the Champions played as fans gave a standing ovation during a timeout.
The Lightning celebrated their second Stanley Cup championship with a fan celebration event Wednesday at Raymond James, following a boat parade down the Hillsborough River.
The trophy represents only the third major world championship in Tampa Bay sports history and the Lightning won two of them — capturing the Stanley Cup in 2003-04 and 2019-20.
The Bucs beat the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl 37 to cap off the 2002 season.
