TAMPA ― The Bucs are keeping the band together. At least two of the lead performers.
On a day when they used the franchise player tag on receiver Chris Godwin, the Bucs have signed linebacker Lavonte David to a two-year, $25 million contract.
The Bucs got creative on this one. They added three voidable years to lower David’s 2021 salary-cap value to $3.5 million.
That will help enable the Bucs to sign some of their other free agents, such as outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett.
David, 31, had 117 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception last season while leading the No. 1 defense against the run for the second straight year.
